Course Description:
In this semester, you will be learning the basic fundamentals of floor exercises such as cartwheels, split jumps, backward rolls and forward rolls. We will also work up to handstands, backbends, and even backbend kickovers if the student seems ready. Before doing anything, we will learn how to be safe while tumbling, and will stretch before we perform any type of skill. I will have each student set a reasonable goal, and try to reach it by the end of the semester. I am hopeful this class will teach the students that if they set their mind to a goal and work hard, then they can accomplish it!
Required Supplies:
It is highly recommended to have a 2X6 or 4X2X8 gymnastics mat and enough space to be able to do a forward roll/cartwheel. If you cannot afford a gymnastics mat ($40+ on Amazon) then a yoga mat may be a good no-slip surface, but does not offer ample cushioning. Loose fitting clothes or gymnastics leotard. Highly recommend a child’s balance ball/yoga ball. Other optional items stretch bands, yoga wheel.
