Course Description:

This course is designed to be a Full High School Credit in History. Students should expect to spend 4-5 hours outside of our live class time, each of EOA’s 24 weeks.  This is not a typical textbook type class, it involves Bible reading, projects and reading literature, all in a way designed to bring history alive in a way textbooks are not able. We, the teacher, the students and the parents will work together to foster good time management skills because it will be extremely difficult and in some cases impossible to leave assignments to the last minute.  Parents and students are encouraged to communicate with me if the workload is too much, or too little for any student. Adjustments can always be made. I strive to see each student as an individual! (Please be aware: Most likely there will be homework due for the first class)

This course integrates events and people of the Bible with the study of ancient civilizations from Creation to Jesus. Students of multiple learning styles will be able to find their niche in this class as well as be challenged to expand their horizons and develop critical thinking skills using a Charlotte Mason inspired, unit study approach, as they read Bible passages, listen to audio CD’s, read parts of the Student Manual, read other literature (of the student’s choice) and complete projects that will be shared with the group.  If you have questions about what the Charlotte Mason Method is, this link gives a great explanation: https://simplycharlottemason.com/what-is-the-charlotte-mason-method/

Required Resources/Books:

Ancient Civilizations and the Bible by Diana Waring (https://www.dianawaring.com/store/world-history-curriculum/ancient-civilizations-and-the-bible)

Parts of the Curriculum each student needs:

  1. Student Manual
  2. 3 CD sets: “What in the World”, “True Tales”, and “Digging Deeper”
  3. Various other books are needed, one for each unit of the curric.  Many of these books may be available at the library. These books are not set in stone. Students will each choose which books they will read, so every student may read a different book. Acquiring these books will require advance planning!
