INSTRUCTOR: Sarah Smith (For teacher bio, click Here)
EMAIL: SarahS@empowered.academy
TIME: Wednesdays 1:00-2:00 CT
SUGGESTED AGE RANGE: 12 years old and up
Course Description:
Join me for 12 weeks of exploring The Winter’s Tale, a story of suspicion and jealousy, of innocence and hope, of repentance and forgiveness.
The first 7 weeks will consist of reading the play “Round Robin” style, becoming familiar with the language and plot. During this time each student will choose a brief portion of the play to be performed via the medium of their choice.
The remaining weeks will be devoted to rehearsals, during which time students will focus on memorizing their lines and designing a costume, puppet or some other creative method to perform their part. The final week of class will be a live, online performance of a shortened, 40 minute version of the play.
Required Resource:
In addition to EOA’s class requirements, students will need
- A notebook for jotting down ideas, notes and questions.
- Ability to access to shared Google Doc versions of The Winter’s Tale, linked in the Edmodo group.
Additional Information:
- Access to an audio or video performance of the play.
- A cheap copy of The Winter’s Tale, to be noted and marked up.
Because the class readings will require verbal participation from all students, I advise the use of a headset microphone to cut down on background noise, or a quiet area for class attendance.
